What is Facebook?

Facebook is the most dominant social media platforms in the world and one of the easiest ways to stay in touch with friends and family. Facebook allows you to share photos, links, status updates, videos, have live conversations, and so much more.

Getting Started with Facebook

Create an account:

  1. Go to and follow the Create an Account prompts.
  2. Once your account is created, check your email for the verification. Click the link within the email and you are ready to start personalizing your account with a profile picture and cover photo.  
  3. It is highly recommended that you add a little information about yourself and begin connecting with people that you know. This will completely personalize your profile.

Once these tasks are complete, you are ready to create your first post.

Create Posts and Interact:

  1. To create your first post, on the home screen a large box will appear that says ‘What’s on your mind.’ Click within the box and begin creating your sentiment. You can also add pictures or video from this location as well.
  2. Once you have posted your first post, check out the newsfeed for posts from your friends and family within the newsfeed. You can like posts, comment, and share them with your audience.

Growing your Audience on Facebook

Facebook offers you an audience that you already know, or have at least became acquainted with in one way or another. The key with Facebook, is to make sure that you are “friends” with the people that you have networked with or met. Here are a few ways that you can further build your audience on Facebook.

  1. If you have a website or blog, make sure to include a Facebook link to your profile so that somebody can easily access your profile/page.
  2. Provide a link in your email signature that gives people an easy access to your profile.
  3. Share your Facebook profile information on other social media platforms that you may already have. Encourage users to follow the link to connect with your profile.
  4. Promote to the right audience. As you add friends to your Facebook, you have the option to add them to lists that then give you the ability to target just those individuals when posting a status update. This assists with being able to generate user focus content for a specific audience.
  5. Interact with people. Make comments, like the things they are sharing, post a unique message to their timeline, and keep the conversation going.
  6. Create Facebook groups. In groups you are interacting with others through your personal profile, but you can focus on your business and industry related subjects. It also allows group members to converse and share their experiences with others that are also interested within the group.
  7. Share interesting news and topics from your industry. Become a thought leader and share your personal experiences with the successes you have had as a result of your engagement with Sixth Dimension.
  8. Post ticklers that allows others within you friends to refer you to others they may know.

Getting Started with Instagram

What is Instagram?

Instagram is a mobile social media application dedicated to sharing photos and videos with a diverse audience. Instagram is all about providing value to your followers. Your goal should be to post photos and videos that invoke some kind of emotion – happiness, humor, motivation, nostalgia, love or anything that you feel a like-minded person would enjoy seeing.

High quality photos with a lots of color generate the most engagement on Instagram, so keep this in mind as you capture engaging and special moments to share with your following.

Create an account:

  1. Go to the Google Play store or Apple app store and search for Instagram.
  2. Download the application to your mobile device (*Note: Instagram is not available for Amazon Kindle devices).
  3. Once the app is downloaded, open the application and follow the prompts to sign up for a new account.
  4. Add a profile photo, a biography and a link to your website.
  5. You do have the option to link your Instagram account to your Facebook account as well as link it with many other third party sharing sites that you may have an account with.
  6. Announce to your Facebook followers that you have a Instagram account and suggest that they give you a follow.
  7. Find and follow accounts that share similar interests to you as well as begin following accounts of friends and family.

Once these tasks are complete, you are ready to create your first post.

Create Posts and Interact:

  1. Create your first photo share by clicking the (+) button in the center of the screen. Load a photo or video from your mobile device. You can add filters to jazz up your photo, just try not to overdo it. As a suggestion, it is good to think of the theme and feel you would like your account to have.
  2. Add your caption that you would like to accompany the image and share. If you have linked any other accounts with your Instagram account, you can simultaneously share to those accounts as well.
  3. Click the home icon and begin scrolling and engaging with other accounts by double tapping an image or clicking the heart symbol. You can leave a comment by clicking the comment bubble. When responding to a comment, make sure to include the account name that you are responding to by clicking the reply or including the full user account address name.

How to Grow an Audience on Instagram

With over 200 million active users, it is definitely the social media platform that allows you to reach people not only locally, but from around the world. This allows you a great opportunity to generate more leads and sales for your business as well as build a stronger community relationship rapport.

  • Like photos in your niche market

Start looking for photos posted by other people that share similar interests as you do or for accounts that you would like to have a part of your network. Click the heart button to like a photo, leave a comment on an image you really like, and give the account a follow. This assists with getting your name out there and starts building your following.

  • Create a hashtag and encourage people to use it

This is a great way to build community. Sixth Dimension has already created and began curating the hashtag #mysixthdimension. Feel free to engage audiences with this tag or create one that would be unique for your following. It works best if the hashtag has a specific purpose. Once the hashtag is being you used, engage with the content by liking the images or reposting images (with proper credit, of course).

  • Encourage followers to take action

As simple as it sounds, people are more likely to engage with your content if you ask them to. Sharing a quote? Ask them to “like” your photo and express their opinions.

  • Geotag your photos

Posting a photo from a great park or restaurant that you visited? Geotag it by clicking the “add location” section. This allows future visitors to see the content when they might visit and gives you another opportunity to connect.

  • Figure out what your audience likes

Look through your account and see if you notice a pattern for the content that people are engaging with. Ask yourself, what clicks with the audience and why? Then look for ways that you can incorporate more of that into your feed.

  • Link your Instagram account to your other networks

This assists your followers on other social media networks to discover your Instagram account and they will likely proceed to follow you there as well.

  • Approach popular users to collaborate

Think outside of the box! Ask another Instagrammer if you can take over their account or be a guest contributor for a day. Think of ways that you and another user could benefit both audiences with new and engaging content.

Creating Good Content

Whether you are new to social media or a long veteran, good content is imperative to growing your audience, connecting with prospects and achieving ultimate success. Get to know what your audience likes to see how you can expand on that and create information or photos that expand on topics and demonstrate your credibility.
